A resident of Poltava was sentenced to 5 years in prison for a fatal accident in Transcarpathia

By the court verdict, a 32-year-old junior inspector of a prison in Poltava region was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 1 year.

The regional prosecutor’s office proved in court that the 32-year-old resident of Poltava, while visiting relatives in Transcarpathia, at night, having lost control of the vehicle, had hit a pedestrian on the roadside. The local resident died at the accident scene from his injuries.

Therefore, the court found him guilty of a criminal offense under Part 2 of Art. 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic safety rules, causing the death of the victim), but given that the defendant fully admitted his guilt and has two young children, he was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for 1 year, with the probation for 1 year.
