A phone scammer cheated a Transcarpathian out of 22,000 UAH

A 59-year-old resident of the village of Pylypets in Mizhhirya district became a victim of a phone scam.

At noon, the woman received a phone call from an unknown man who told that he was a police officer. The pseudo-policeman told the woman that her son had committed a crime, and if she wants to save him from prison, she must immediately transfer money to the specified account.

The gullible mother believed the stranger and transfered the money in the amount of 22,000 UAH through a bank terminal. Only after that she called her son, who said that he was all right…

Realizing that she had been cheated, the pensioner filed a report to Mizhhirya police. The scammer is wanted, but the police warn citizens once again to be cautious and not to believe telephone fraudsters.
