A nationwide Red Cross Month has begun in Transcarpathia

  A press conference to mark the opening of the nationwide Red Cross Month in Ukraine took place 
in Uzhgorod Press Club.
Ivanna Szabo, the head of the regional organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine told about 
this year’s event: "The traditional nationwide Month of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine takes place 
From 1 to 30 of April under the slogan: "Where help is needed – 2016. Join the Red Cross 
movement".
It aims to draw public attention to the problems of vulnerable groups – internally displaced persons, 
single disabled elderly people, war and labor veterans, disabled, large and single-parent families and 
orphans, patients with HIV \ AIDS or tuberculosis – and to form public opinion in favor of charity," – 
Ivanna Szabo said. She said this is one of the two major annual events of the organization.
"Today, we are actively working and helping IDPs, last year we helped over 800 people (307 families) 
who appealed for help – Ivanna Szabo said. – Also we help the families whose relatives died in the 
ATO. Today, throughout Transcarpathia, there are collection points at the medical and social centers 
and 22 social assistance rooms. We urge everyone to join the nationwide Month. These points work 
on weekdays from 9 to 18.00. In 2015, thanks to this Month we provided assistance to 3,800 citizens 
in Transcarpathia at more than 300,000 UAH."
In Uzhgorod, there are 2 points of aid collection: at Nezalezhnist embankment, 11 and at 
Zhupanatska square, 3. The most necessary things, according to employees of the Red Cross, are 
cookware, linens, blankets, pillows, children’s clothes for infants.
Ivanna Szabo also stressed that the Search Service of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine is actively 
working helping to search for family members who lost contact as a result of armed conflicts, natural 
disasters, emergencies, helps in the search for documents, and the graves of citizens who died during 
the war and so on.
