Among the luggage with personal belongings declared by a Chernivtsi resident on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, customs officers found a significant number of spare parts for cars of various brands and more than 60 bottles of foreign wine, which exceeds the amount of goods allowed to be imported into Ukraine without customs duties.
Returning home from Italy by bus as a passenger, a 40-year-old resident of Chernivtsi during the inspection at the customs post "Tisa" of the Transcarpathian customs declared only luggage with personal belongings. During the oral interrogation, he denied carrying any other goods, including those prohibited or restricted to be moved across the customs border of Ukraine.
However, when checking the luggage compartment of the bus, inspectors found on the floor 11 cardboard boxes with spare parts for cars of different brands and 62 bottles of wine of different brands. It was clear that the total value of the found goods exceeded 500 euros and required payment of customs duties. And, it seems, they were imported to Ukraine for commercial purposes.
However, the passenger refused to recognize the undeclared goods as his property, stating in the explanation that the boxes had been given to him by an unknown man in Verona (Italy) for delivery to Chernivtsi.
Therefore, a report was drawn up against the violator under Article 472 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. Currently, the value of the seized goods requires additional assessment with the involvement of an expert. And those are 36 pieces of spare parts with a total weight of 17.5 kg and 62 bottles of red wine (46.5 liters), in particular: "Petite Cavale" by "Luberon" (France), "SIGNATURE COTES DE PROVENCE" by "FIGUIERE" (France), and white sparkling wine "BRUT METODO CLASSICO" by "MENEGOTTI" (Italy).
