A documentary about Transcarpathian Greek Catholic priests has been released in Hungary

The Debrecen Media Center of the Greek Catholic Church released a documentary film about Transcarpathian Greek Catholic priests. This was reported by the Hajdúdorogi Főegyházmegye.

The premiere of the film will take place on April 1 at 5:00 pm at the Debrecen Archbishopric office.

Briefly about the background of the film:

In the middle of the 20th century, many people living outside of Hungary due to the separation of a large part of territory from Hungary were in distress. In particular, in Transcarpathia, most Greek Catholic priests refused to submit to the new Soviet government and were persecuted

127 priests were sent to the camps of Siberia, Kazakhstan. 36 people did not return to their homeland, they gave their lives for their faith.

However, the Soviet repression machine failed. The Greek-Catholic Church in Transcarpathia was not eliminated. The priests continued their work secretly, for 50 years they were working underground. They held their ceremonies, secretly organized training for priests and ensured the survival of the Greek Catholic Church in Transcarpathia, and then restored it after the regime changed.
