Graves of known Transcarpathian

01.10.2015

A lot has been written about the largest and the oldest cemetery in Uzhgorod – the Calvary located on the modern Castle Hill (Daleka street).

In particular, Lyudmyla Sakharova, who has been studying the subject for decades, stated that it arose in the second half of the eighteenth century, when Transcarpathia was a part of Austria-Hungary. And one of the first persons to be buried there was Hungarian poet Doiko Gabor, who died in 1796. Unfortunately, his tomb has not survived.
