Banosh with jam was presented at the forum of the Transcarpathian cuisine (PHOTOS)

29.05.2015

On Thursday, at the hotel-restaurant complex “Cilicia” in Uzhgorod, there was the first forum of Transcarpathian cuisine which was organized under the auspices of the Tourist Club of UzhNU and the Tourinfocenter of Transcarpathia. It brought together representatives of restaurants and hotels from all districts (except Tyachiv) which, according to the survey, are the best representatives of Transcarpathian cuisine at home. There also were culinary experts.

According to tourism expert Fedir Shandor, the reason for holding the forum was the fact that traditional Transcarpathian dishes are slowly “migrating” to other regions. For example, in Lviv region, they claim that bograch (Hungarian Transcarpathian dish) is their own. This means that soon there may come a time when tourists will have no reason to stop in our region, because the same dish will be available in neighbouring one – the head of the Tourinfocenter of Transcarpathia Oleksandr Koval adds. So we must do something to preserve our gastronomic flavours.

The participants of the event decided to sign the memorandum of the Forum of Transcarpathian cuisine, which states in particular that “we, participants of the congress, decided to preserve and revive the traditions of Transcarpathian cuisine, save and restore endemic regional gastronomy products, promote the popularization of Transcarpathian cuisine in the region and beyond, establish the Board of Transcarpathian cuisine that will represent each district.” Also, each participant undertook to put traditional names of Transcarpathian specialties in the menues (for example, not bograch soup, but bograch-goulash). They also added to the memorandum the recommended list of Transcarpathian cuisine dishes.

After that, participants planted in the back yard the tree of friendship – a sakura. Then the presentation of dishes started. For example, the owner of the “Detsa u Notarya” Pavlo Chuchka came with his famous tartar steak. He also presented a novelty – banosh with different kinds of jam.

Then, there was a contest for speed eating of chicken wings. The contestants had to eat as many wings as they could in 2 minutes. The winner received a cash award from the host of the event. So did the winner of pancake eating contest.

And finally, the culinary event was a success and very tasty. So eat and promotes Transcarpathian dishes!
