Today, May 30, on Teatralna Square in Uzhgorod, pupils of children’s music schools from across Western Ukraine did a cultural flash mob.

First, one girl came on the stage and began to play “Ode to Joy” by Ludwig van Beethoven on violin. Then she was joined by other young musicians and the melody, that became the anthem of the European Union, was played in full force.

Then the children played a few more pieces, thus giving a wonderful outdoor concert for all Uzhgorod residents and visitors.

As they explained to a correspondent of the korzonews, the event was held as part of the contest of young musicians, held these days in Uzhgorod. Children not only from Uzhgorod and Transcarpathia, but also from the Lviv and other cities of Western Ukraine, were performing on the stage.

The Pereni Park in Vynogradiv is more than nine hectares in area including children’s rides¸ gym equipment, recreational area and plenty of trees, some of which are 200 or more years old.

The shade of magnificent trees, fresh air, children’s voices, slow pace, serenity and grace – such is the first and main impression of our recreation zone. But meticulous eyes of the park patrons and, of course, the manager of the recreational facility and representatives of local authorities notice a worrying state of centennial trees that are dying, withering, some of them have absolutely rotten basal trunk. Also visitors notice numbers on them, because every tree in the Pereni park is counted, numbered and examined. In 2013, experts of Lviv National Forestry University (the Department of Landscape Architecture) came to Vynogradiv to make an inventory of plantings, followed by issuance of the registration certificate for the park and its reconstruction project, as well as to design the landscape. All parks, especially old ones like ours, have their problems. Those include long age, and lack of nutrients. Because of that trees wither, and it is necessary to cut them down and to plant new, more resistant species instead of them.

One of the main problems of Vynogradiv park is the lack of moisture and small species diversity. Because of this, diseases are easily transmitted from one tree to neighboring ones. So, sanitary felling is needed and scientifically justified. This is absolutely normal process. So, while chopping one tree, we plant another one. And our Pereni park will continue to be a favorite place for safe recreation for many, many years.
