Thus in the regional center of Transcarpathia they started to celebrate the Danube Day, which is celebrated in Europe on May 29. It was established by 17 countries located in the basin of the largest river of the continent. The event is aimed at involving the public in water conservation. Since 2007, Transcarpathia has also been involved in the Danube Day. The largest tributary – the Tisa – runs through the region
Therefore, on this day, the longest environmental photo exhibition – "Water glory of Transcarpathia", dedicated to beauty and environmental problems of lakes and rivers of the region, was opened in Uzhgorod. The length of the exhibition is 144 meters, which is a record.
In Transcarpathia, there are nearly 9,500 rivers, streams and lakes. As the Head of the Transcarpathian ecological center Oleksandr Herevych noted, it is important to teach to protect water bodies from childhood. This is what teachers of the center try to do, by educating children during visits. The coordinator of the Joint Danube expedition from Slovakia Jaroslav Slobodnik supported this idea and said: "Such Days of the Danube in Europe are primarily aimed at children, young generation. The children must realize at an early age that rivers will just die, if we do not take care of them."
The head of the Tisa River Basin Management Volodymyr Chipak said, "you’ve seen some pictures of the exhibition, where the result of our attitude to the river can already be seen. And it is all that rubbish, bottles, household garbage, that we cast off into the river. The exhibition was opened outside, on the pedestrian bridge not by chance. Because thousands of people will be crossing it. I’m sure there will be no one who would not pay attention to the pictures."
