The newly elected deputies of the Uzhgorod City Council appealed to the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Oleksiy Petrov with a request to assist in the implementation of a project to reconstruct the building of one of the city’s schools.
For almost a quarter of a century, no new general secondary education institutions have been built in the regional center of Transcarpathia. Uzhgorod’s schools are overcrowded.
Today in Uzhgorod we see a high rate and level of urbanization, so there is a need to increase the number of schools and forms in them, said the head of the region.
The newly elected deputies of the City Council propose the reconstruction of the building of Uzhgorod Secondary School №19. It involves addition of the three-storeyed educational block for elementary school to the present three-storeyed school to increase the number of classrooms. At present, the project has been updated, the design and estimate documentation has been made. However, due to lack of funds, work on the reconstruction of the school has not yet begun.
Representatives of the Uzhgorod community requested that this project be included in those funded by the State Regional Development Fund. They enlisted the support of Oleksiy Petrov, who will continue to lobby for this project.
The secondary school №19 is located in the so-called Novy neighbourhood of Uzhgorod, where almost 20,000 people live. Almost 1,200 students study at this general secondary education institution, and after the reconstruction another 450 first-graders will be able to receive a quality education, the press center of the Regional State Administration informed.
