Yesterday, based on the information received from the operative search department, border guards of the Mukachevo detachment’s mobile special unit prevented cigarette smuggling across the Ukrainian-Romanian border.
In the area of the department "Dilove", border patrol noticed people moving towards the state border. The offenders were carrying packages wrapped in polyethylene. The perpetrators ignored the lawful orders of the border guards even after warning shots, instead they left their cargo and fled.
During the search of the area, border guards found packages containing 2,420 packs of excise-free cigarettes. The report on the detection of signs of the crime under Art. 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was sent to the police.
The tobacco products were delivered to the border unit and later will be handed over to the SFS.
