The special operation to release the workers was carried out at 04:00 am by officers of the Department for Combating Crimes Related to Human Trafficking, the Skadovsk Police Department, under the procedural control of the Skadovsk District Prosecutor’s Office and with the support of the KORD special police unit.
"We found out that there were 13 people aged 19 to 53 years, including two women, in the so-called "labor camp". The owner of the household called himself a foreman and rented out his captives to local farmers. People worked in the fields under the scorching sun from 05:00 am until dusk", – the head of the department for combating crimes related to human trafficking of the Kherson police Oleg Shanko said.
According to the workers, the owner was constantly intimidating them. He promised to pay for the work at the end of the summer season. All 13 people lived in the barn in terrible conditions. The police found out that the 30-year-old recruiter would look for free laborers among socially vulnerable groups, mainly in Kirovohrad and Transcarpathian regions.
He promised a decent salary, free accommodation and meals. When people got to the place, they were subjected to psychological pressure and forced to work hard. The recruiter took all the money for the captives’ work.
