Another loss: outstanding Ukrainian scientist, candidate of chemical sciences Stepan Stepanovych Butsko has passed away

Another loss… As it has just become known, a prominent Ukrainian scientist, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Stepan Stepanovych Butsko died at the age of 90… An outstanding scientist worked as an associate professor in UzhNU. And in recent years – as the head of the Department of Biology and Chemistry of the Transcarpathian Ferenc Rakoczi II Hungarian Institute. His life is an example of dedicated service to science, struggle for the preservation of the native land’s environment, selfless work with the younger generation… 
Stepan Stepanovych Butsko was born on June 3, 1930 in Mukachevo in a family of teachers. He received his secondary education in 1948 at Mukachevo Secondary School 1. He continued his studies at the Faculty of Chemistry of Uzhgorod State University, graduating in 1953. Butsko started his teaching career in 1963 at Uzhgorod State University as a senior lecturer at the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry. In the period 1964-1966, S.S. Butsko was teaching chemistry at Cape Coast University College, Ghana. In 1966, S.S. Butsko returned to work at Uzhgorod National University and became the head of the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry. S.S. Butsko is a well-known scientist in the field of photochemistry, chemistry of complex compounds, bioinorganic chemistry and technology of complex processing of natural raw materials. S.S. Butsko is the author of more than 150 scientific papers.
