On July 12, 2020, the Minister of the Office of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Gulyás Gergely, stated that the coronavirus epidemic had broken out in several places and it was necessary to prevent spread of the virus from abroad. In view of this, the Hungarian government has decided to tighten the rules for crossing the Hungarian state border. In particular, with regard to Hungarian citizens and their relatives, as well as citizens of other countries. In particular, if Hungarian citizens enter the country from a country marked in yellow or red, they will be tested for the desease. If an infection is suspected, the person will need to be quarantined. Quarantine can be avoided if a person provides a negative test for COVID-19, not older than 5 days.
Exceptions are transit and freight trips.
Four EU countries were included in the yellow category: Bulgaria, Portugal, Romania and Sweden. In addition, the US, Norway, Russia, Serbia, China and Japan are also included in the yellow category. The red category, ie foreigners coming from these countries are banned from entering Hungary, include: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, Northern Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro and Ukraine. The categories of each country will be reviewed at the government meeting on 15.07.2020. These restrictions will take effect from 00:00 on 15.07.2020.
