There have been no new cases of diphtheria in the region – Transcarpathian doctors

"No new cases of diphtheria have been registered in the region in recent days," the acting director of the health department of regional state administration Yelizaveta Birov said.

As of October 28, 15 patients continue to be treated in the regional infectious hospital with the diagnosis "tonsil diphtheria, localized form, mild course". All of them are students of UzhNU Medical Faculty. On Sunday, two more students (2nd and 5th years of UzhNU Medical Faculty), who have contacted with diphtheria patients, were hospitalized. The patients were diagnosed with follicular angina. All necessary medical and diagnostic procedures are being carried out.
Recall that on Saturday, October 26, our region received 8 vials of serum (6 vials from Lviv and Chernivtsi regions and two vials from Ivano-Frankivsk). The delivery of 100 doses of diphtheria antitoxin from India is also expected in the near future. Yelizaveta Birov noted that the vaccination campaign is underway in Uzhgorod. Between October 24-27, 3558 citizens, including 400 students, were vaccinated against diphtheria in the city’s healthcare institutions.
Yelizaveta Birov noted that there are diphtheria vaccines and called on all those who have not yet been vaccinated to undergo this procedure.
