As you know, as of August 1, Uzhgorod city council increased the fare for minibuses from 5 to 7 hryvnias. The reaction of the city residents was swift. Here is just one post in the group Uzhgorod. Its author is Mykhailo Churilo, and almost every Uzhgorod resident will agree with what he said:
– As of today, public transport fare is no longer 5, but 7 hryvnias! The tariff increase has come into effect, and the conditions remain the same! We’re still riding in dirty rusty buses, the technical condition of which leaves much to be desired.
On the eve of the election, the mayor vetoed the fare increase, but right after the election, the issue was put back on the agenda. Uzhgorod residents are outraged by this decision and think that UAH 7 is too much! In addition, in the summer, students will have to pay the same amount. The preferential tariff for them will be applied only from September 1 and will be not 3, but 5 hryvnias.
Is it appropriate in such a small town to set tariffs at the same level as in other, larger Ukrainian cities? Let’s compare: in Lviv, bus fares are UAH 7. Despite the fact that the area of the city is more than four times larger than the area of Uzhgorod!
In Kyiv, the tariff is not much different – 8 hryvnias, and the difference in the area of the cities (in comparison with Uzhgorod) is even bigger – 20 times!
Uzhgorod residents have already protested, expressing their indignation, but the city authorities simply do NOT want to hear them!
What do you think about this increase and what is the best price you are willing to pay for public transport?
