According to the CTS, referring to the Interfax-Ukraine, the Ministry of Infrastructure considers the opening of the airport "Uzhgorod" only a temporary solution to the problem of air transportation between Transcarpathia and Kyiv.
– The opening of the airport in Uzhgorod is an interim solution. The key task for us will be the construction of a new airport – either in Mukachevo (most likely) or in another city. But it takes money – 2-3 billion hryvnias, – Volodymyr Omelyan said.
As you know, recently the Motor Sich announced that it would make the last flight to Uzhgorod and back on May 10, and after May 17 no flights are scheduled.
However, the director of the Uzhgorod airport assures that "Uzhgorod" International Airport is working and will keep working, the flights to Kyiv were not canceled, but suspended, but it is unknown at this time when they will be resumed, because negotiations are underway. Moreover, negotiations on daily flights "Kyiv – Uzhgorod" are being conducted.
The same information about the negotiations and daily flights was provided by the Transport Minister Volodymyr Omelyan, responding to the media reports about the cancellation/suspension of the Kyiv-Uzhgorod air service, but he did not say when flights would be resumed.
The flights on this route "Kyiv – Uzhgorod" were launched on March 15. The Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan and the President Petro Poroshenko opened personally.
Since the very launch, there have been a number of questions regarding the affordability of the ticket price, since the cheapest ticket costs 2 thousand hryvnias. Also a flight from Kyiv to Uzhgorod had a 2-hour transfer in Lviv.
