Sakura does not smell and does not bear fruit. Despite that, it is a real miracle that turns Uzhgorod into a bouquet-tree.
First Uzhgorod sakura trees are already blooming in the Galagov neighbourhood, known as the "Czech quarter".
The oldest trees are going to be century-old soon, but there are also many young ones. "Sakura madness", as the period of flowering is called in Uzhgorod, is spreading to other cities of the region, and there are already debates: which one is the sakura capital.
Uzhgorod citizens initiated a flash mob #save_sakuras: we ask to protect our lovely trees, not to break branches, not to collect bouquets, because it is pointless. Sakura will not be beautiful in a vase. But it will look great in the photos!
By the way, Transcarpathians and visitors are taking over the Japanese tradition of hamami – the Japanese ritual of admiring the trees. There is also an ideal drink for this ritual: rose wine. And Transcarpathian winemakers have prepared themed products. Thus, the Chateau Chizay company, only during the flowering week, bottles a limited mini-series "Sakura of Transcarpathia", which includes two light spring wines: a white dry blend and a noble rose. You can taste them exclusively in the tasting room of the Uzhgorod castle and at the Sakura Wine Festival this weekend.
The holiday Sakura Wine, which will take place on April 13 and 14 in the "Owl’s Nest", will be devoted to rose wine and more.
