Calendar of Sakura Flowering in Transcarpathia. April 2, 2019 (PHOTOS)

Japanese cherry, better known as sakura, is in fact a close relative of plum, pear, peach and apple trees and belongs to the Plum (Prunus) subfamily of the Rosaceae family.

In total, there are 16 species and 400 varieties of this plant. They can be anything from 10-20 meters high trees to 150 cm high shrubs. Their flowers are white and different shades of pink.

The flowering periods are also extremely varied, some varieties can blossom even in January or October. The number of sunny days and heat also play an important role.

While Transcarpathia is preparing for "active flowering", approximately on April 10-15, some cherry trees will bloom as early as this weekend.
