As we announced, the family of Uzhgorod mini-sculptures has been expanded with a new iconic figure. This time, the legendary Hungarian poet, publicist, critic and political activist Ferenc Kolcsey was set up on the railing of the Uzhgorod Hungarian House at Mukachivska st., 54. The sculpture presented with the assistance of the Consulate General of Hungary in the city of Uzhgorod.
Historians claim that the work and activities of the poet significantly influenced Lajos Kossuth and the revolutionary democratic youth led by Sandor Petofi. But most of all, Ferenc Kolcsey is known as the author of the Hungarian national anthem.
It is interesting that the poet lived for a long time in the village of Szatmárcseke (now – Hungary, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg region), but received his letters in Beregovo, visited Uzhgorod on several occasions, on the way to Sobrance.
One of the streets in Beregovo is named in honor of Ferenc Kolcsey.
