"Magnet" № 5, or which district of Transcarpathia should be visited by those who are interested in the scientific and technological progress achievements. The answer is simple – to Irshava district.
Irshava district is first and foremost famous for its sacred legacy (as evidenced by preserved wooden temples); natural objects such as the National Nature Park "Zacharovany Krai", the tract "Smerekovy Kamin" (the village of Ilnytsia), sphagnum bog "Chorne Bahno", hydrological monument of nature of national importance; mountain meadow "Kuk"; the ruins of several castles.
But that’s not all, because there are two more reasons to come here. First, the only in Transcarpathia Borzhava narrow-gauge railway, the highlight of technical achievements of the region from the Austria-Hungarian era, which is still running to Khmilnyk station in Irshava district. The second site is the only functioning water forge in Ukraine – a historical monument of the XVIII century in the village of Lysychevo.
The forge complex consists of the main building with the driving mechanism, wheel and hammer, the courtyard and the water system. During the First World War, the production stopped, and during the Czechoslovakian period, the forge was working, but at the reduced capacity. The work did not stop in Soviet times, and in 1947, a hydroelectric power station was erected there to supply electricity to most of the residential buildings of Lysychevo. Now, there is a museum there, and they work only with small agricultural tools. Every year, in June, you can come here for the festival and witness the work of this unique mechanism.
