In the Carpathian Mountains, a young lion is waiting to be sent to Africa. 7-month-old Nathan has settled in the Rehabilitation Center for Brown Bears in the "Synevyr" National Park and become a local "star".
The National Park is cooperating with the Lawrence Anthony Foundation, which deals with wildlife around the world. The animal advocates took custody of the lionet, which was kept in a recreation complex in Sambir, Lviv region. The animal was seized at the age of 5 months and in a fairly good condition – Yuriy Babichyn, the head of the ecological and educational department of the National Park "Synevyr" (who also provided the photos) said.
"As part of our cooperation, we agreed to keep the animal until the Fund makes all the necessary documents. It is necessary for the lion to go back to his native land – to start a new life in the Rehabilitation Center for Predators in South Africa," – he says.
Of course, the animal was examined by a veterinarian, a special nutritious meat diet was made for it and it was put into an enclosure near the visit center, which is being built on the territory of the "bear’s resort".
By the way, despite the information that the lionet, who is staying with the Carpathian bears, is called Arnie, the real official name of the big cat is Nathan. Environmentalists expect that all the issues for its delivery to Africa will have been resolved by autumn and the lion will make a successful trip.
