State Agency for Water Resources of Ukraine: construction of mini-hydroelectric power plants on rivers leads to violation of the aquatic life living conditions (+ DOCUMENT)
The construction of hydropower facilities on rivers, regardless of capacity, leads to a violation of the aquatic life living conditions and changes in the hydromorphological state of river channels. This is stated in a letter from the State Agency of Water Resources of Ukraine to the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.
As stated in the document, projects for the construction of hydro-power plants should be developed taking into account current environmental legislation, and in case of construction within a transborder river basin, the requirements of international treaties to which Ukraine is a party. The decisions on the construction of such facilities should be taken on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the potential environmental risks and consequences, the position of local communities and the findings of the environmental impact assessment…

As previously reported, the State Fisheries Agency also opposes the construction of mini-HPPs in Transcarpathia.
