Transcarpathian deputies want to go from Uzhgorod to Kyiv by “Intercity” train

The initiative of the chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Mykhailo Rivis was supported by the deputies of the Regional Council almost unanimously. At the 11th session, they adopted the decision "On the Appeal of the Transcarpathian Regional Council on the launch of the Intercity train "Kyiv-Uzhgorod" addressed to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and the "Ukrainian Railways" public joint stock company, as well as people’s deputies of Ukraine from Transcarpathian region and regional councils, the press service of the Regional Council informs.
The document states that Transcarpathian region has a favorable geographical location for the development of foreign economic cooperation. The main trade routes of the state go through the territory of the region and a large volume of domestic cargo and transit export-import transportations is carried out here. The development of the tourist and recreational industry in the region is a priority for the socio-economic recovery not only of Transcarpathian region, but also of the country as a whole. In recent years, the popularity of thermal and mineral springs among the tourists and guests of Transcarpathia has increased significantly.  
Organized cross-border tourist product is always attractive and in the future its significance will only grow. Therefore, the development of the road and transport infrastructure of the region plays an important role.
Bodies of local self-government and executive authorities of Transcarpathian region have repeatedly appealed to relevant central authorities on the need to establish a high-quality railway connection of Transcarpathia with the capital, other regions of Ukraine and within the region, and the provision of quality services by the Ukrzaliznytsya. The opening of the Beskydy two-track railway tunnel in the Ukrainian Carpathians on May 24, 2018, which increases the throughput capacity on the main railway corridor, makes solving of these issues possibile.
"Considering the recreational attractiveness of Transcarpathian region, the expansion of inter-regional cross-border cooperation, we, the deputies of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, ask to resolve the issue of the launch of the Intercity high-speed train, which will allow to connect the capital of Ukraine Kyiv with the regional center of Transcarpathian region – Uzhgorod.
We are convinced that the opening of this route will contribute to a significant increase in tourist flows, as well as consolidation of the regions of Ukraine. The train will travel the distance between the cities faster, which will positively affect the investment attractiveness, revitalization of business activity of entrepreneurs and the economy of the region and the country as a whole", – the appeal reads.
