Transcarpathia and Romania will be developing border areas together

Within the framework of the "Romania-Ukraine" cross-border cooperation program, Transcarpathia and Maramures County plan to jointly implement projects for the development of border areas and communities.

This was stated during the meeting of the heads of the region – Hennadiy Moskal and Mykhailo Rivis with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Ukraine. Christian-Leon Curkanu came the region with a working visit. The leaders and representatives of the Maramures county and Transcarpathia have already discussed the priority areas of cooperation, and joint projects in these areas are being prepared. Those are primarily the development of the border infrastructure, as well as cooperation and implementation of joint projects in the field of tourism, culture, etc. Mrs. Rivis pointed out that our region also wants to develop such cooperation and deepen cross-border cooperation with the neighboring region of Satu-Mare.

Christian-Leon Curkanu promised to make every effort within his authority to promote cross-border cooperation and implementation of joint projects, because, as the ambassador assured, cooperation with Ukraine in general and Transcarpathia is extremely important for Romania.

During the meeting, the parites discussed the possibility of opening checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Romanian border, as well as the Concept of broadcasting in languages of national minorities, developed by the leadership of the National Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine.
