The Military Prosecutor’s Office in Transcarpathia shutdown a cigarette smuggling channel

On October 3, 2017, the military prosecutor’s office of the Uzhgorod Garrison, in cooperation with the operational staff of the Department for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian Region and the Internal Security Division of the Mukachevo Border Guard Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, documented the fact of delivery of a part of unlawful benefit by a state inspector of the border guard service department "Tyachiv" of the Mukachevo border guard detachment to a state inspector of the border guard service department "Vylok" of the same detachment.

The cash in the amount of 2,000 UAH was intended for unhindered transportation of tobacco products across the state border of Ukraine outside the checkpoint.

The offender from the "Tyachiv" border guard service department was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine while receiving part of the unlawful benefit. The funds were found and seized in full during the inspection of the scene.

In addition, during the searches at the suspects’ places of residence, about 300 boxes of counterfeit tobacco products worth over UAH 2 million were found.

At present, top-priority investigative activities are being conducted. The suspect will be notified of being suspected and removed from office.
