As we have already reported, the new law on education, in particular Article 7, which concerns the education in minority languages, has caused quite a stir both in our country and abroad. Politicians of neighboring countries expressed fears that "Ukraine may lose its support by the West", and the law itself was called "language apocalypse". National minorities of Transcarpathia stated that they "feel excluded from the political process because of the new law on education".
Now, there is a reaction of the European Union. Hug Mingarelli, the EU Ambassador to Ukraine, said that in order to resolve the situation with the countries that oppose the Ukrainian law on education, the government should have this law reviewed by the Venice Commission or the Council of Europe.
According to the replyua.net with reference to the UNIAN, the diplomat stressed that the conflict situation should be resolved in the shortest possible time. "We hope that this conflict or this situation will be resolved very quickly. The best way for this, for Ukraine, will be to refer the law for review by the Council of Europe or the Venice Commission. As far as I understand, the Minister of Education of Ukraine (Lilia Grinevich) will visit Strasbourg on October 6 to discuss this issue with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe," – Mingarelli said.
According to the diplomat, he hopes that the Ukrainian government will draw conclusions and make optimal decisions about the law. Mingarelli also noted that the Ukrainian authorities should request the review of this law, after which they should take steps that would calm down all the neighboring states.
