Today, on 25.07, an expanded meeting on the functioning of Uzhgorod International Airport was held at the Regional State Administration, which was attended by the head of the Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal, the Chairman of the Regional Council Mykhailo Rivis, the Deputy Director of the State Aviation Service of Ukraine Vitaliy Simak, representatives of the State Enterprise UkSATSE and others. This was reported by the press service of the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.
The main question at the meeting was how to resume the full operation of the airport blocked by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) because of absence of UkSATSE certification.
Recall that the Uzhgorod airport is the only one in Ukraine that uses airspace of the neighboring state (Slovakia), which is a member of the European Union and operates under the requirements of the EASA, for the take-off and landing of planes.
– Last June, the agreement between Slovakia and Ukraine on air traffic control services in Uzhgorod airport expired, – H.Moskal reminded . – Eight months before that, we had repeatedly appealed to the Ministry of Infrastructure with requests to do everything to conclude a new agreement. In November last year, the Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan, during a visit to Transcarpathia, publicly promised that the airport would be operating in full mode in the spring of this year. It is already mid-summer, and the airport is still operating in a limited mode without dispatch supervision. In fact, Transcarpathia became hostage to the inactivity of the bureaucrats from the State Aviation Service and UkSATSE, who blocked the work of our airport fearing the certification for the EU requirements compliance…
The head of the Regional State Administration strictly stated that a concrete decision on resumption of the operation of the International Airport "Uzhgorod" must be made today. The result of the meeting was a joint letter from the State Aviation Service of Ukraine and the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration addressed to the head of EASA Patrick Kee, which confirms the readiness of the air navigation services provided by the UkSATSE for the certification by the European Aviation Safety Organization. This will fulfill the main requirement put forward bythe EASA to UkSATSE to restore air traffic control by the Slovak provider in Uzhgorod airport.
– If this letter does not work, or the UkSATSE somehow back out of the promise, we will tackle the problem of Uzhgorod airport with the help of not the Ministry of Infrastructure, but the air carriers from the European Union," – H. Moskal said.
Recall that the relevant appeal addressed to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman was also prepared by the deputies of the Transcarpathian Regional Council of the VI convocation.
