The round table "Hutsul Republic: Milestones of history" took place in the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library on the occasion of the Day of Unification of Ukraine.
The roundtable was attended by professors, known historians of the region, writers, publishers and students. Doctor of Historical Sciences Roman Ofitsynsky moderated the event.
In 1920-1930-ies, many prominent figures, including the president of Czechoslovakia, Tomas Masaryk, researched Hutsul Republic. Many memoirs, novels were written about it.
In Soviet times, the history of Hutsul Republic was not researched. Even now, the general public do not know that along with the UPR and WUPR, in 1918-1919, there was Hutsul Republic, whose population at the time expressed their clear position on joining Ukraine.
The participants of the round table told about the history of Hutsul Republic headed by Stepan Klochurak and its accession to Ukraine. They discussed the phenomenon of Hutsul Republic in the context of the present and its presentation in literature.
In conclusion, it was proposed to establish a memorial plaque to Stepan Klochurak on the house of that he built and lived in, to rename a street in his honor, to make a documentary and publish books that would reflect the historical events of that time.
