David Friesen is an American jazz bassist. Friesen plays bass and Oregon bass, electrified acoustic bass.
David Friesen was born on May 6, 1942 in the town of Tachoma, Washington and was raised in Seattle. He started playing the ukulele and accordion when he was 10 years and when he was 16 he already played guitar professionally. Friesen was introduced to jazz music in the club "Slim Gaillard" in Los Angeles.
During his military service in Germany, Friesen mastered the bass. He has performed with such renowned musicians as Miles Coltrane, Bill Evans, Gil Elmer, Billy Harper quintet, Stan Getz, George Adams, Danny Richmond, Joe Henderson, legendary pianist Mel Waldron; recorded more than 65 CDs and has been featured as an accompanist on more than 100 music tracks.
Friesen is one of two or three bass players in the world who can hold audience’s attention during a solo concert. He has performed in the US, Canada, UK, Sweden, of Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Turkey, Japan, Australia, South America, and now in Ukraine.His 1989 album "Other Times, Other Places" hit number 11 in the Billboard charts of jazz albums.
David Friesen’s music is imbued with different ingredients of jazz, characterized by mixing Jewish folk and classical melodies, lyrical power and warmth.
