The damaged pipe of the “Soyuz” pipeline was cut out and sent for examination to determine the cause of the accident

On January 1, at 15.30, residual gas in the damaged pipe of the "Soyuz" pipeline burnt out completely, after which repairers were able to examine the accident scene.

The damaged piece of the pipe was cut out and sent for laboratory analysis, which will determine the final cause of the accident.

According to preliminary data, the depressurization occurred because the cross seam in the pipe, that runs in the ground at a depth of 1.5 meters, had broken. The probable cause is soil subsidence or wear of the pipe that was laid in the late 1970’s.

Recall that on January 1, due to depressurization of the "Soyuz" pipeline, in Khust district of Transcarpathian region, there was a gas explosion followed by fire with a 50-meter-high fire pillar. No one was injured in the accident, there was no massive damage to the environment and no disconnection of settlements in Transcarpathia from gas supply, the transit of gas from Russia to the EU was not disrupted.
