How to protect yourself from an aggressive dog – tips from Transcarpathian rescuers

A person can come across a dangerous angry dog any time. According to experts, in most cases, animal aggression is motivated – unfounded hostility is manifested only in sick dogs. The most "prone" to aggressive behavior are: untrained "fighting" breeds of dogs, homeless animals and healthy dogs whose aggression was not controlled by owners and has developed.

 A dog often shows aggression as a result of certain behavior of human. So be aware that you can not touch pregnant females and dogs with puppies and disturb animals in their habitats. Also do not tease dogs, scream and make sudden and quick movements with your hands. Do not drive an animal into a corner – it provokes the so-called "aggression of despair." Lastly, do not take or touch a dog’s food.

 When a dog is going to pounce on you, it is evidenced by several factors:

 – Nervous tail shaking;

 – Ears pointed forward;

 – Stretched paws;

 – Bristling back;

 – Rumbling or warning roar.

 If you are faced with an aggressive dog on the street, follow simple safety rules:

 1) walk quietly, do not make sudden movements;

 2) do not scream and do not look an angry dog in the eyes;

 3) climb a high place while facing a dog;

 4) grab a handful of sand or earth, and when the dog is close, throw it into its mouth and eyes;

 5) if a dog attacks, remove outer clothing, wrap it aroung the arm and hold it to the animal.

 If a dog bit you after all, you should immediately wash the wound with available disinfectants or water, seek medical attention and report about the dog to the sanitary station or service for control of stray animals.
