Slavery and inhumane conditions – the law enforcement finally acknowledged problems in mental hospital in Transcarpathia (PHOTOS + COMMENT)

The prosecutor’s office is investigating into the violations found in Turya Remety mental clinic in Perechyn district.

The formal notification states that "Perechyn district prosecutor’s office launched pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings initiated on the basis of a criminal offense under Part 1 of Art. 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (negligence).

Earlier, a human rights officer reported about problems in the institution.

Oleg Grigoriev, the Regional Coordinator of the Department for the implementation of the national preventive mechanism of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Commissioner on Human Rights, emphasized:

"Following the monitoring visit to Turya Remety neuropsychiatric clinic, a report will be sent to the head of the Transcarpathian regional state administration stating the identified deficiencies and violations and providing practical recommendations for their elimination.

At the same time, a copy of the report with the revealed gross violations of patients’ rights (labor exploitation of eight patients who permanently live at the farm, non-compliance with building and health standards in residential buildings, isolation of people in areas with bars instead of doors, neglecting patients who are unable to take care of themselves, etc.) will be sent to the prosecutor of Transcarpathian region."

So, finally, there is a reaction.

Currently the investigation continues.

And here are some pictures of the, so to speak, clinic.
