Another "Public Examination" for a large cohort of candidates for the mayor of the regional center took place in Uzhgorod.
In addition to those announced earlier (Volodymyr Chubirko, Mykhailo Kachur, Victoria Slyusarenko, Yaroslav Shafar, Mykhailo Churylo, Serhiy Ratushniak, Oleksandr Bedey, Oleg Murtazin), there was a tireless fighter against dirt Maria Badyda. Instead, gentlemen Churylo and Bedey were absent.
However, the announced regulations – speech of a candidate, answers to questions of experts – was stictly observed.
However, the community was represented mainly by members of candidates’ campaign teams. However, the ostensible objectivity was preserved thoroughly. Pavlo Homonay was quite a success as the moderator – though not easily, but he managed to cope with restless oratory "enthusiasm" of Mr. Ratushniak and emotions of female candidates.
As for the speeches, they were quite predictable. There was a lot of calls to fight corruption, references to inept government, program slogans on the need for job creation, approval of the master plan and so on.
Ms. Slyusarenko as usual appealed to the community as the main initiator, controller and advisor of the future municipality. The most experienced city "administrator" Mr. Ratushniak disappointed the audience with unusual restraint, but made up for it with accusations against the main tax officers of the city regarding his vodka, sausage and several more businesses "stolen" from him…
As always, Mr. Shafar looked uncertainly optimistic, while the eternal athlete Mr. Murtazin as usual called for a healthy lifestyle. Mykhailo Kachur looked significantly more confident compared to the previous public debate. His speech within the allotted time consisted of restrained emotional appeals, understandable phrases and moving maxims.
As always late Volodymyr Chubirko was able to switch the public attention with his arrival. To his credit, over years of public activity of Mr. Chubirko has learned to keep the audience’s attention, to use voice modulations and remain in the spotlight. Clear steps of his program and especially – the answers to questions of experts closed with a polite, "Have I answered to your question?" – created the impression of confidence in his abilities and willingness to work with the audience.
Summary: The second attempt to bring together the public with their potential choices proves that this method is the most effective, efficient and fair in the fight for the electorate. It is a real attempt to establish contact between the community and its choice which will be made in a week. At least, it is a chance to see which of the 23 registered candidates really exist…
