OPORA: in Perechyn, the Election Commission is trying to find fault with an IDP candidate

Perechyn City Election Commission intends to consider cancellation of registration of the candidate for the mayor Oleksandr Bolotyan of the "Svoboda" because of his residence in the Crimea.

This was reported to the OPORA by the representative of the party "Svoboda" in the city of Perechyn and Perechyn district Andriy Suslov.

According to him,on October 07, representatives of the Election Commission phoned him and began to ask questions about the candidate from the party Oleksandr Boltyan. The latter is an IDP from Crimea. He lived in Yevpatoriya (it is his place of residence registration), now he temporarily resides in Kyiv, but physically is in the ATO area, in Avdiyivka, where he serves in the battalion "Sich".

The absence of the place of residence registration (the candidate did not specify his temporary place of registration) could have caused the cancellation of his registration as a candidate.

However, in the end, the issue of cancelllation of Oleksandr Boltyan’s registration was not included into the agenda of the city election committee and was not discussed.

As of October 9, Oleksandr Boltyan is in the list of registered candidates for the mayor of Perechyn, which can be seen on the official website of the Central Election Commission.

Overall, four candidates are running for the mayor of Perechyn. In addition to Oleksandr Boltyan of "Svoboda", they are:

  • Huranych Miroslava ("United Center");
  • Pohorilyak Ivan ("Vidrodzhennya");
  • Skubenych Vitaliy ("Bloc of Petro Poroshenko "Solidarnist").

OPORA remindls that registration of a candidate in the temporarily occupied territories, including the ARC, is not a ground for refusal or cancellation of registration of candidates for elected positions in local governments in Ukraine.
