Wine industry is revived in Uzhgorod district

This Wednesday, in the village of Serednye in Uzhgorod district, in the "Shkilna Vynnytsia" tract, there was the opening of the first wine-making and wine-growing teaching and research facility for European grape varieties "Rose of the Carpathians". The deputy head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Mykhailo Rivis, the deputy chairman of the regional council Mykhailo Popovych and representatives of Uzhgorod District Council visited the event at the invitation of the Association of Economy Students of Transcarpathia and the NGO "Initiative for Regional and Cross-Border Cooperation".

According to the organizers of the event, the project "Rose of the Carpathians" is being implemented under the ENPI CBC Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine and is co-funded by the EU through the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument. The aim is to strengthen and deepen cooperation between Transcarpathian region and regions of Hungary, Romania and Slovakia in environmentally, socially and economically sustainable manner.

On the area, which occupies 4 hectares, future winemakers and winegrowers, scientists and other experts of wine-growing and wine-making industry, both domestic and foreign, are now able to learn new approaches, share experiences, conduct practical lessons, research and develop new innovative technologies. For this purpose, modern equipment for the processing of grapes was purchased for European funds. Then, students of Svalyava college presented their first wine-making achievements with subsequent tasting of several grape varieties.
