Summer-2015 in Transcarpathia: drought and temperature records

This year the summer in Transcarpathia was whimsical in the first half and hot – in the second half.

The uneven distribution and significant shortfall of rainfall, the occurrence of atmospheric and soil drought, hot winds – all that led not only to negative consequences in the plant world, but also caused the maximum reduction in the groundwater, the deputy head of the Transcarpathian Hydrometeorology Centre Inna Bulak says. This, in turn, led (even in mountainous areas) to drying of wells in villages and towns of the region.

We also have records. In August, the largest number of hot days (30-37 ° C) over the last few decades was recorded in Transcarpathian region. In many rivers of the region, low water levels remain, and in the basins of the Uzh and Borzhava, water levels are 1-7 cm below the minimum long-term figures.

The shortfall of rains in the summer, especially in low-lying parts of the region, worsened the conditions for the development and maturation of crops. There was wilting and shedding of fruit on fruit trees, drying up of vegetable crops, premature yellowing and shedding of leaves.
