Hungary intends to be stricter with Transcarpathians seeking to receive its passport

More than 124 thousand Ukrainians filed documents for Hungarian citizenship. These data were published by a number of Hungarian media, including HVG.hu, which adds, citing its own sources, that more than half of them intend to receive Hungarian passports fraudulently.

Because of this, the publication notes, Budapest began a rigorous scrutiny of the filed documents in order to deny citizenship.
One of the stages of identifying those, who have obtained citizenship fraudulently, is tests of language skills of those, who try to enter the EU Hungarian passport, on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border.

In particular, if the owner of the Hungarian passport can not provide the answers in Hungarian language, a relevant report is made, which may result in revocation of the citizenship of Hungary in the future.

However, Ukrainians, who have obtained the citizenship fraudulently, already have found a way out of this situation – they try to get to Europe or go home, crossing the border with Slovakia, to avoid such "language tests".  

A rigorous process of verification of the issued documents has begun in Budapest. And knowledge of the language is not the main argument for revocation of citizenship. The document may be considered invalid if they find significant discrepancices in the photographs that were submitted for citizenship and in passport. Because there have been cases where documents were received and language proficiency tests were taken by different persons. Ukrainians, in turn, then would change their name and surname to Hungarian to reduce the risk of being caught on counterfeiting.   

Those are usually not local Hungarians from Transcarpathia, but "clients" from many regions of Ukraine and the former Soviet Union. To prove their belonging to the Hungarian nation they had to resort to fraud. In the State Archives of Transcarpathian region, it is not a problem to receive the necessary documents – money buy anything. 

Fake birth certificates are also not uncommon – in Ukraine they are made for 100-200 euros apiece.
