At yesterday’s plenary session of the Regional Council, the deputies approved the decision "On naming the Transcarpathian Ethnographic Museum after Tyvodar Lehotsky."
And this is how it happened. Intellectuals of the region initiated the naming of the Transcarpathian Regional Ethnographic after the prominent historian, archaeologist, ethnographer, founder of the museum business in Transcarpathia Tyvodar Lehotsky.
Tyvodar Lehotsky made a significant contribution to the development of science and culture in Transcarpathia in the second half of the 19th – early 20th century. His research interests included archeology, history, ethnography, local history. At one time his name was known far beyond the borders of modern Transcarpathia and Austria-Hungary.
Tyvodar Lehotsky made an enormous contribution not only to the development of archeology in Transcarpathia, study of its history and culture, but also was one of the founders of the museum industry in Transcarpathia.
The decision of the Regional Council session "On naming the Transcarpathian Ethnographic Museum after Tyvodar Lehotsky" does not involve financial expenses. But its approval will enhance the image of the Transcarpathian Ethnographic Museum, promote the remembrance of T.Lehotsky.
