Ukraine abolished special import duty for hybrid cars

Ukraine has decided to abolish special import duty for cars with internal combustion engine capacity of 1 to 2.2 liters, equipped with hybrid unit (electric motor with a drive to the wheels of the car).

According to the statement of the Joint Commission on International Trade published in the newspaper "Uryadovy Kuryer", the Commision adopted this decision on February 12, following the review of its decision of April 28, 2012, having considered the information of the Ministry of Economy and Trade and the opinion of domestic producers.

The Commission concluded that the national interests of Ukraine require non-application of special measures on imports of certain brands of passenger cars with hybrid power unit to Ukraine.

The decision takes effect from the date of publication of the notice.

Recall that on April 28, 2012, the Commission adopted the decision that was published only on March 14, 2013 on the introduction of special duty on import of passenger cars with gasoline engines, regardless of country of origin and import in amount of 6.46% – for cars with 1-1, 5 liter engines and 12 95% – for cars with 1,5-2,2 liter engines.

According to experts, the special duty significantly changed the balance of power in the Ukrainian market and reformatted the demand for cars with diesel engines.
