The yearly average exchange rate of hryvnia against the US dollar will be below the current peak. This opinion was expressed by the chief economist of the investment company Dragon Capital Olena Byelan.
When asked what the exhange rate will be in 2015-2016, she replied: "About 23 hryvnia per dollar."
Olena Byelan believes that stabilization of the exchange rate today should be the main objective of the government.
"Increasing the discount rate to 19.5% and other interest rates will not be enough (to stabilize the exchange rate – Ed.), because even dramatic changes in rates make very little impact on the money and foreign exchange markets" – the economist says.
Recall, the National Bank raised the discount rate from 14% to 19.5%.
