The prosecutor’s office sent to the court the indictment regarding one of the police officers accused of beating visitors of a cafe in Vynogradiv district.

The prosecutor’s office sent to the court the indictment under Part 1 of Art.122 and Part 2 of Art.296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – deliberate infliction of moderately severe injuries and hooliganism committed by a group of people. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of up to five years.

According to the head of the investigation department of the regional prosecutor’s office Ivan Bitlyan: "Last year in October, two residents of Vynogradiv district complained to the police that at night they had been attacked by two police officers in plain clothes at one of the cafe-bars in Vynogradiv. It was found out that a verbal dispute arose between a police captain and a detective of Vynogradiv District Police and two Transcarpathians. Then, police officers, while being off-duty and wearing plain clothes, resorted to physical violence and beat the two men. A 39-year-old resident of Vynogradiv then suffered the most – he was diagnosed with a broken jaw and other injuries, and the other man was injured less.

Now, the court will decide the fate of the police officer.
