In Uzhgorod, the city government wants to close the municipal newspaper

In Uzhgorod, members of the Executive Committee at the meeting on December 18 considered the issue of dissolving the public utility "Newspaper "Uzhgorod", which publishes the newspaper with the same name. This was reported by a regional correspondent of the Media Institute.

The issue of the newspaper was introduced by Uzhgorod Mayor Victor Pogorelov right at the meeting – in violation of the Law "On Access to Public Information", as the draft decision was not published on the official website of the City Council, the issue was not in the draft agenda of the meeting of the executive committee .

During the discussion of the issue by the executive committee, the chief editor of the newspaper "Uzhgorod" Andriy Andrusyak informed that this would lead to closure of the municipal newspaper. Therefore, on behalf of the editorial, he asked not to close the newspaper.

According to Mayor Victor Pogorelov, the company is unprofitable and expenses out of the city treasury should be optimized.

The administrator of the Executive Committee Daniela Gevorgyan said that the newspaper would be published, but by a structural division of the City Council. The municipality will enter into a contract of employment with several journalists directly.

As a result, the Executive Committee decided to recommend Uzhgorod city council to discontinue the activity of the public utility "Newspaper "Uzhgorod ". The final decision on elimination of the public utility "Newspaper "Uzhgorod" will be taken by deputies at the session.
