United Center: “Uzhgorod needs effective government. The way to it is through election” (Statement)

United Center expresses its support for the community of Uzhgorod, which made a demand for dissolution of Uzhgorod city council and to call election of the new city council and the mayor.

"In view of all the events taking place in Uzhgorod City Council, the actions and activities of deputies, who have compromised themselves, taking into account the opinion of the Uzhgorod community and demands that it puts forward, we consider the arrangement of the election an extremely important issue that must be addressed as soon as possible.

We support the head of the Transcarpathian Regional Administration Vasyl Hubal who suggested Uzhgorod city council deputies to resign. Such a step would give Transcarpathian Regional Council the grounds to appeal to the state government about calling the election. We urge Uzhgorod city council members to consider the suggestion, as well as the opinion and demands of the community.

The city needs the mayor and the council. Not just any council but an effective council which is primarily guided by the interests of the city and its inhabitants. The local government, which would fully conform to its purpose and be trusted and respected by its constituents. This is what Uzhgorod needs, and this is what we need to aspire to. The way to this is through election" – the Transcarpathian Regional Organization of the United Center stated.
