Our orienteers brought awards from Slovakia (PHOTOS)

15-year-old tenth grade student of Mukachevo Secondary School №1 Arthur Svatko showed excellent results at the Open Night Orienteering Championship of Slovakia. The disciple of the sports club "Tovarysh" at the regional center of tourism and sports for schoolchildren became the vice-champion in the U-16 category. The competition was held in the mountains around the village of Muolcha, near Banska Bystrica and brought together more than a hundred participants. This type of orienteering is considered one of the most challenging and exciting, but also extreme.

The competition was spoiled by an incident, as a result of which struggle for the award became struggle to save the life.

One of the most experienced members of veterans groups, former champion of the country, disregarding the recommendations of the organizers, chose the path through a dangerous area. The 58-year-old athlete, obviously, in darkness and thick fog, sliding down a steep slope, fell into a deep abandoned mine.

Accidentally, two hours later, another athlete heard desperate cries of the victim through a narrow hole in the ground and ran for help. The rescuers arrived in time.  The very next day after surgery, in an interview to the JOJ.sk channel, the victim promoted orienteering as a safe and highly entertaining sport.
