Metropolitan Onufriy held a worship in Transcarpathia in memory of the Maramures-Sighet trial and in honor of Alexiy Karpatorusky

In the St. Nicholas Monastery in the village of Iza-Karpovtlash (Khust district), on Tuesday, October 21, there was a solemn worship held by Onufriy, the Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine. The visit of His Beatitude was timed to commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Maramures-Sighet trial against the Orthodox in the 1913-1914, and the liturgy was held on the day of the glorification of St. Alexiy Karpatorusky.

The clergy of both Transcarpathian dioceses (Khust and Mukachevo) and the delegation of visitors from the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia and the Polish Orthodox Church gathered to the service at the monastery. Faithfuls from all parts of Transcarpathia prayed next to the holy fathers.

High officials of the region – the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Vasyl Hubal and the Chairman of Transcarpathian Regional Council Ivan Baloha also attended the solemn prayer in the church of the Khust diocese.

Vasyl Hubal said that the visit of the Metropolitan Onufriy was a great event for the region and for Orthodoxy."Today’s sermon and prayer for Ukraine, for Transcarpathia, for peace unite us. And it would be good if it united parishioners of all faiths, because we have to support, to believe each other, especially in Transcarpathia – in a multinational and multidenominational land" – Vasyl Hubal said.
