Hackers stole data of 2 million accounts

Nearly 2 million passwords to accounts on social networking sites Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others were stolen by hackers.

The obtained information was posted online, "Vesti.Ekonomika" reported.

Experts from the company Trustwave, dealing with cybersecurity, are convinced that the leak of personal data occured due to malware installed on the affected computer that collected information about passwords entered.

They note that the virus retained data for the last month and was sending collected names and passwords to a server controlled by hackers.

Experts have discovered in the Internet the database "Pony" with published passwords registered in the Netherlands.

The database contained data from 318,000 Facebook accounts, 70,000 – Google accounts, 60,000 – Yahoo! accounts, 22,000 – Twitter accounts, and 9,000 passwords to access to "Odnoklassniki". The site, where the stolen data were posted, was in Russian.

Administrations of those social networks have already announced that all the stolen data have been changed. Interestingly, the most popular of the stolen passwords was a combination of digits 123456.
