Bike lanes for 35,000: the city finally is working on bicycle infrastructure (document)

The Executive Committee agreed on the program for the development of bicycle infrastructure for 2014-2016 without debate. 

The document was approved, as they say, "In connection with the rapid development of cycling in Uzhgorod, the increase in the number of cyclists over the past two years by 15% and the predicted increase in the bicycle traffic by 25-30% over the next 5 years, increasing number of cycling initiatives."

They say that the program provides for the creation of appropriate conditions for cyclists and ensuring the needs of cyclists during the construction and reconstruction of general purpose roads and streets. The program provides for the creation of bicycle path network and bicycle lanes along with the appropriate bicycle infrastructure.

10 thousand are provided for the development of the project. 35 thousand – for application of road markings, 8 thousand – for installation of signs, 10 thousand – for building of ramps. The total program cost estimate for 2014 is 63,000 UAH.

In the first year, the cycling program will affect the following locations:

Nezalezhnist embankment, Studentska embankment, Kyivska embankment, Slovyanska embankment, Bozdosh park, Hlents str.,Franko str.,J.Hus str.,Laborets sq.,Zakarpatska str. 

In 2015, they plan to continue the project. Details are in the document which was adopted by the executive committee without changes.

Now the program will be submitted to the session of the City Council – deputies still can make changes to the plan of cycling development in Uzhgorod.
