Traffic police checked manholes on roads: 254 officers have been brought to justice

The traffic police inspected the state of manhole covers and grates on the roads of Ukraine. Law enforcement officials and representatives of local authorities examined more than 300,000 inspection and stormwater wells.

This was reported by the PR Service of the MIA of Ukraine.

As noted, the reason for the extraordinary inspection was the tragic incident when in Lviv a two-year child fell into an uncovered manhole and died.

During the inspection of the street network, the policemen examined over a quarter of a million inspection wells and almost 72,000 stormwater wells. As a result of the examination, inspectors found out that at the time of the inspection, almost 2.8 thousand covers and over 1.3 thousand grates were absent on the roadway of streets and roads, pavements and footpaths. The condition of almost six thousand covers and over 2.8 thousand grates did not meet the requirements and standards necessary to ensure road safety.

In addition, the commissioners found out the absence of more than 2.7 thousand covers and almost 400 grates of stromwater drains in yards and areas adjacent to houses. The condition of almost 4.5 thousand covers and 599 grates did not meet the regulatory requirements.

Following the inspection of street network, 254 officials were brought to justice. Police inspectors issued 508 orders to elimenate the deficiencies that were identified during the inspection – the ZIK reported.

Recall that in Uzhgorod, the prosecutor’s office is dealing with trap manholes, and the mayor promised that public utilities will bear personal responsibility if they fail to cover all manholes.
