Today, September 30, Uzhgorod city and district court judge announced the verdict in the high-profile criminal case of the so-called "smuggling tunnel." As explained by the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office, it is the case in which two brothers were accused in the commission of a series of crimes. By the court verdict, Vasyl was sentenced to three years confinement, and Mykhailo to 3 years imprisonment.
In particular, Vasyl and his brother Mykhailo were accused and found guilty of unauthorized occupation of land committed by prior agreement with brother Mykhailo and other persons, unidentified by investigation, acquisition for the purpose of distribution, storage for this purpose, transportation for the purpose of distribution and distribution of illegally manufactured tobacco products. Mykhailo was also accused of committing illegal possession of narcotics without the intent to sell.
At the same time, the court, under Art. 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, released the brothers from serving fixed sentences, setting probation for 2 years, with confiscation of illegally manufactured products.
At the same time, the underground tunnel that leads from the house on Zaporizka street in Uzhgorod to the state border of Ukraine within Uzhgorod City Council is attached to the criminal proceeding, the pre-trial investigation on which is carried out by the Investigation Department of the Security Service of Ukraine.
